Welcome to Island Radio (CJAI 101.3FM). By accessing our website at cjai.ca, listening to our radio broadcasts, using our streaming services, or submitting content to us, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use our services.

Island Radio is a community radio station licensed by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) and operating under Canadian broadcasting regulations.

2. Use of Services

2.1 Permitted Use

Our services are provided for personal, non-commercial use. You may:

  • Listen to our FM radio broadcasts at 101.3 FM within our coverage area
  • Stream our radio programming through our website

2.2 Prohibited Use

3. Streaming Services

3.1 Availability

We provide free streaming of our radio programming through our website. While we strive to maintain continuous service, we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free streaming. Service may be temporarily unavailable due to:

  • Technical maintenance or upgrades
  • Technical difficulties or equipment failures
  • Internet connectivity issues
  • Force majeure events beyond our control

3.2 Geographic Restrictions

Our streaming service is primarily intended for listeners within Canada. Some content may be subject to geographic licensing restrictions.

3.3 Recording Prohibition

You may not record, download, or redistribute our streaming content without express written permission from Island Radio. Our broadcasts are protected by copyright law and international treaties.

4. Music Submissions

4.1 Submission Agreement

By submitting music through our music submission form, you represent and warrant that:

  • You are the copyright owner or authorized representative of the submitted music
  • You have all necessary rights to grant the licenses described in these terms
  • The submitted content does not infringe upon any third-party rights
  • All information provided in the submission form is accurate and truthful

4.2 License Grant

By submitting music to Island Radio, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, worldwide license to:

  • Broadcast your music on CJAI 101.3 FM radio
  • Stream your music on our website (cjai.ca)
  • Feature your music on Radio Free Stella (radiofreestella.com)
  • Use your music for promotional purposes related to our radio programming
  • Store and archive your music in our music library

4.3 No Payment

You acknowledge and agree that:

  • You will not be paid for music submissions or airplay
  • You will not receive royalties for broadcasts or streams of your music through our services
  • Island Radio operates as a community radio station with limited resources

4.4 No Guarantee of Airplay

Submitting your music does not guarantee that it will be played on air or featured on Radio Free Stella. Music selection is at the sole discretion of Island Radio's programming team based on:

  • Musical quality and production standards
  • Relevance to our programming format
  • Local artist priority (Eastern Ontario region)
  • Content appropriateness for broadcast
  • Available airtime and programming needs

4.5 Local Music Priority

Priority consideration for airplay is given to local music from the Eastern Ontario region (Belleville to Brockville, and North to Highway 7). Non-local submissions may not be considered.

5. Performance Studio Bookings

5.1 Booking Process

Submitting a performance studio booking inquiry does not constitute a confirmed booking. A member of our team will contact you to discuss:

  • Available dates and times
  • Technical requirements and capabilities
  • Performance expectations and guidelines
  • Any associated terms or requirements

5.2 Performance Recording and Broadcast

By performing in our studio, you grant Island Radio permission to:

  • Record your performance
  • Broadcast the recording on CJAI 101.3 FM
  • Stream the recording on our website
  • Use the recording for promotional purposes
  • Archive the recording in our music library

5.3 Conduct and Professionalism

Artists and performers must:

  • Arrive on time for scheduled sessions
  • Treat our staff, volunteers, and equipment with respect
  • Follow all safety guidelines and instructions
  • Refrain from inappropriate language or behavior
  • Comply with all applicable laws and regulations

6. Contact Forms and Submissions

6.1 News, Press Releases, and Community Announcements

By submitting news, press releases, or community announcements through our contact form, you:

  • Grant Island Radio permission to read your message on the air
  • Understand that your name and email will not be read on air unless specifically requested in your message
  • Represent that the information submitted is accurate and truthful
  • Acknowledge that Island Radio reserves the right to edit or decline submissions

6.2 Editorial Discretion

Island Radio reserves the right to:

  • Review and approve all submissions before broadcast
  • Edit submissions for clarity, length, or appropriateness
  • Decline to broadcast any submission at our sole discretion
  • Remove submissions that violate our content standards or applicable laws

7. User-Generated Content

7.1 Responsibility for Content

You are solely responsible for any content you submit to Island Radio. You agree not to submit content that:

  • Is false, misleading, or deceptive
  • Is defamatory, libelous, or invasive of privacy
  • Is obscene, pornographic, or sexually explicit
  • Promotes hate speech, violence, or discrimination
  • Violates any laws or regulations
  • Infringes upon intellectual property rights
  • Contains malware, viruses, or harmful code

7.2 Rights to User Content

You retain ownership of any content you submit to Island Radio, but you grant us a non-exclusive license to use that content as described in these Terms of Service.

8. Intellectual Property

8.1 Island Radio Content

All content on our website and broadcasts, including but not limited to text, graphics, logos, audio clips, and software, is the property of Island Radio or our licensors and is protected by Canadian and international copyright laws.

8.2 Trademarks

"Island Radio," "CJAI 101.3FM," and "Radio Free Stella" are trademarks of Island Radio. You may not use these trademarks without our prior written permission.

8.3 Music Rights

Island Radio holds appropriate licenses from SOCAN, Re:Sound, and other rights organizations for the broadcast and streaming of copyrighted music.

9. Donations

Donations to Island Radio are processed through third-party payment platforms (Stripe, PayPal, GoFundMe, Interac e-Transfer). By making a donation, you agree to the terms and privacy policies of these third-party services.

All donations are final and non-refundable unless otherwise required by law. Island Radio is a registered non-profit organization, and donations may be tax-deductible. Please consult with a tax professional regarding your specific situation.

10. Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer positions at Island Radio are subject to approval and may require:

  • Completion of an application process
  • Background checks or references
  • Training and orientation
  • Compliance with station policies and CRTC regulations
  • Adherence to professional standards and codes of conduct
