For the April 20, 2018 episode of Studio Stories, we visit the workshop across the road from the Neilson Store Museum and Cultural Centre on Amherst Island and talk to Paul Cuyler. Paul takes old metal bits and bobs of all sizes and shapes and previous functions, and creates art. Join us as we have a chat outside his workshop on a sunny March afternoon about his beginnings, his work, and his new artistic partner.

Apologies to our listeners for the extra noises of puppy, wind, birds, and rural traffic, as we did this interview outside Paul’s workshop on a sunny March day.

Samples of Paul’s work that we discuss in this episode are shown below:

The simple, elegant bird by Paul Cuyler, head is shaped by hammer.
Hervé, with a face made from a water pump with a brake rotor boater hat.
Many hands make lighter work with this, one of many trilliums

Paul’s workshop is at 5245 Front Road in Stella on Amherst Island, Ontario. He tells me if there’s work out in front of the workshop on the lawn, it’s for sale, so be sure to stop by and have a look at his metal artwork if you’re on the island.

Paul and Ben will be selling their original artwork at the Spring Blossom Craft Show at the Picton Arena/Community Centre on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 9:30am-4:30pm, and at Art Among the Ruins at 27 Earl St. in Newburgh on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 10am-5pm.
