Dan Simpson is Island Radio’s newest morning host with a Thursday program called THE ISLAND SUNRISE SHOW. From 7 to 9am, the beef-farming-country-singer, will entertain listeners with good old country, bluegrass and a bit of rock n’ roll.
Dan began appreciating country music as a teenager growing up along the shores of St. John River in Oak Point, New Brunswick. Two of Dan’s favourite artists are Emmy Lou Harris and Hank Williams Jr. Dan not only sings and writes music, but plays stand up bass and acoustic guitar. He performs with the band Sheila Bedard & Country Rythm.
Dan and his wife Joan created the EMERALD MUSIC FESTIVAL on Amherst Island in 2011. The weekend of August 9, 10 and 11, 2013 will be their third annual summertime event held at their island beef farm.
Special thanks goes out to the exclusive sponsor for the Island Sunrise Show: Breaking Bread Bistro at 368 Main Street in Bath (Tel: 613-881-0130, email: breakingbreadbistro@gmail.com).

Join retired television news journalist, Amherst Island author-artist Terry Culbert for his NEW show THURSDAYS @ EIGHT, heard LIVE from 8 to 11am and repeated Thursday evenings from 8 to 11pm. Terry has been the host for almost seven years of Island Radio’s longest running program, the Friday Morning Show, hosting 342 editions.
Raised in the south western Ontario Irish-Canadian village of Lucan, the majority of his music growing up was Celtic, folk and country. In 1958, Johnny Cash began his first Canadian tour with a stop in Lucan….Terry was there with his new camera…. Johnny was twenty-six, Terry was sixteen. In 1960, Cash returned to Lucan and after autographing one of Terry’s enlargements from two years earlier, he hired Terry to photograph the concert that night in Lucan and in Guelph the following evening. LUCAN, Home of the Donnellys, written and illustrated by Terry, features many of those pictures.
THURSDAYS @ EIGHT is a radio show packed with music, guests and information. Find out what’s happening throughout Lennox & Addington County and beyond. Each week Terry will feature a 30-minute profile of one of his favourite singers or groups. Amherst Island artist Peter Large SCA, OSA will provide listeners with his art report as he did on the Friday Morning Show. Tune in 92.1 FM or www.cjai.ca for three hours of easy listening on THURSDAYS @ EIGHT.
